You will never worry about electricity bills when using Close Comfort.

Using a normal air conditioner is often very expensive because it provides cooling for the whole room. Expect to pay $50 – $100 per month for night-time use.

An inverter air conditioner will cost more to buy and unless you have the highest grade of insulation, the running cost will be about the same as a normal air conditioner.

You can feel just as comfortable with Close Comfort and you will only pay $30 a month to keep two people cool and comfortable every night. And your bill will be predictable.  No more scary surprises at the end of the month.

Close Comfort focuses cooling just where you need it most.  That’s how you can be more comfortable and never have to fear summer heat or electricity bills ever again.

Close Comfort gives you other advantages:

  • Be part of a green solution for a warming planet and reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Use Close Comfort with a mosquito net and sleep with windows and doors wide open.
  • Enjoy extra cooling and mosquito protection inside our patented bed tent.
  • Portable and moves easily on wheels. You can use it anywhere, even outside.
  • No pipes, no installation and no water.
  • Health and well-being – you feel better in fresh air with open windows. A split air conditioner has to be used with the doors and windows closed and the air quickly becomes stuffy.

1. Turn off the ceiling fan.

2. Open the windows or door, except at the hottest time of day.

3. Set up your tent.

The tent amplifies the cooling and helps you sleep comfortably all night long.

Close Comfort runs on a UPS through load shedding so you sleep blissfully through load shedding on only 8 cents an hour for electricity.

Sleep in fresh air with windows open, wake refreshed.

The tent opens and pops up by itself and takes only 2 – 3 minutes to set up and packs away when not needed.

It protects you and your loved ones from mosquitoes.

Where indoor temperatures are less than 30°C, a mosquito net may be all you need.

1. Turn off the ceiling fan.

2. Open the windows or door, except at the hottest time of day.

3. Arrange Close Comfort so that the cool air flows around your face and neck.

If you are with friends, sit together and share the cooling from Close Comfort. Place Close Comfort no more than 1.5 metres away.

If the cool air is not aimed at your face, you will not feel as comfortable.

If the cool air is not aimed at your face, you will not feel as comfortable.

Place it on a table if needed. To prevent the air conditioner from rolling off table, place it on the styrofoam piece at the bottom of the packing carton.

Here are some tips on using Close Comfort to be as comfortable as possible in extremely hot weather with indoor night time temperatures above 35 degrees.

  • Use Close Comfort at night with a tent to get uninterrupted deep sleep. It easier to face the heat during the day if you have slept well at night.
  • Cover the head end of the tent with a bed sheet, even a thin blanket. It will reduce the temperature inside the tent by a further 1°C.
  • Check the filters on your Close Comfort unit every 2 weeks to ensure there is no dust blocking the airflow.
  • Check that airflow is straight out of the deflector inside the tent. If the adapter fabric lies on top of the deflector, cool air can be flipped high into the tent, reducing cooling at the bottom of the tent where you sleep. As the photograph shows, place a small dry sponge on top of the deflector to keep the adapter fabric away from the tip.
  • Extreme heat almost always comes with reduced relative humidity, so you can use a water cooler to keep your bedroom cooler during the day. Doors and windows must be open for this to work (with security screens). You will feel the benefits of night as the walls of your room will be cooler.
  • Arrange for an air conditioner service technician to clean the insides of your Close Comfort thoroughly before the hot season starts if you have used it the previous season.

Other Tips

  • Drink lots of boiled water – it is simple and effective.
  • Expose yourself to heat during the day, preferably after work. 3 – 4 hours is enough to keep your body acclimatized to heat and then you will feel more comfortable all the time.

Invest in Close Comfort because you will never have to fear extreme summer heat again.

Continuous onshore breezes bring warm and humid sea air over the coast.

Daytime: Use Close Comfort whenever you are working or relaxing in one place.  An evaporative water cooler might provide some cooling for one or more rooms but only during the heat of the day.  You can use both at the same time, provided the draft from the water cooler does not interfere with Close Comfort.  Keep doors and windows open (with security screens).

Sleep:In apartment buildings, especially higher floors, use Close Comfort with a tent for sleeping as the wall temperatures will be high. On the ground floor you may not need the tent for sleeping if the walls are cool. Use a mosquito net and keep doors and windows open (with security screens).

Use Close Comfort in the kitchen: install an exhaust fan to suck out the cooking fumes. When used in the kitchen, your Close Comfort air conditioner may need more regular cleaning.

Use a Close Comfort air conditioner with our patented bed tent as a children’s playroom for daytime. They will stay in there all day long.

At night use Close Comfort for 3 children or 2 adults sleeping in a Close Comfort patented bed tent. The tent will keep you and your children safe from mosquitoes, protecting you from dengue fever and other diseases.

For a family, you can use two or three Close Comfort units in separate rooms to provide privacy and still pay less for electricity than a single room air conditioner.

Enjoy freedom from the fear of summer heat and huge electric bills.

City Electricity Supply

Close Comfort runs on normal 240 Volt AC electricity.

If you have rooftop solar and a storage battery, you will need 3 kWh capacity for each Close Comfort that you plan to run through the night.

Remote Area Electricity Supply

If you live off-grid in a remote area, and solar is too expensive for you, consider using a small generator and run up to 10 Close Comfort units on each generator, depending on the capacity.

A 7 kW generator will run up to 12 Close Comfort units with a steady running power of about 3.7 kW.  It is possible to run up to 25 Close Comfort units on this same generator, but if they are all started simultaneously, the generator will trip.

A typical household 2.5kW Generator can start and run a couple of Close Comfort units along with a few fans and lights.  You can run 4 Close Comfort units on this generator provided you switch them on one at a time, not all at the same instant.

Solar

Close Comfort can run on solar power as well.  During the daytime, each Close Comfort unit will require about 500 Watts capacity from your solar system, and enough battery capacity to provide starting current of 4 amps.  The running current is much less.

If you want to use solar power to run Close Comfort through the night, ask your solar dealer for a system that can store 4 kWh for each Close Comfort unit. Batteries will be the most expensive part of the cost, though the cost of batteries is steadily reducing each year.

When to use a normal air conditioner

If you are the kind of person that needs to feel cold in summer, use a normal air conditioner.  Close Comfort will not do that.  Make sure you can afford the running cost.

Use a normal air conditioner in an office where there are more than 5 people working together all the time. If there are 4 people or fewer, or people are only their part of the time, consider using Close Comfort air conditioners with the windows open, or an exhaust fan. Do not use a ceiling fan with the air conditioner. In that way, the air conditioner helps to maintain a cooler air layer at the bottom of the room where people are. Also, it will be quieter and your papers will not be disturbed.

Social gatherings when you have more than 5 people or when people are moving around and do not remain in the same place. Avoid using the ceiling fan with the air conditioner: it helps to maintain a cool air layer at the bottom of the room and reduces the noise level.
